92% alumina is a widely used high-performance grinding-media grade. Compared with lower-alumina grades, it is generally selected when density, wear resistance and control of iron pickup matter; the right choice still depends on the mill, material and process.
Choose 92% when: you need higher density and wear resistance than economy grades and want to reduce iron pickup associated with steel media. Confirm any element-specific contamination limit against an actual batch specification.
Consider a different grade when: cost is the primary concern and higher wear is acceptable (→ compare 68% or 75%), or your process has strict element-specific purity limits (→ compare an actual 95% specification or discuss another media chemistry).
Fine grinding of glaze raw materials, frit and ceramic pigments where iron pickup from steel media would cause color defects. 92% alumina can reduce iron pickup compared with steel media; confirm the acceptable impurity limits for the glaze system.
Dispersion milling in bead mills and agitator mills. Fine grinding of TiO₂, calcium carbonate and other pigments where iron pickup may affect color or stability. Media size and compatibility must be matched to the mill.
Calcium carbonate, feldspar, quartz, kaolin and other minerals where whiteness and purity matter. Alumina media can reduce iron pickup compared with steel ball milling.
Intermediate and fine grinding of chemical raw materials where iron pickup must be controlled. Chemical compatibility, contamination limits and cleaning requirements must be checked for the specific process.
